AU Domains

Congratulations on your new website from Officite! With these instructions we will guide you in purchasing a domain name for use with your new website.

First Steps

To start the process, you will need to purchase a domain name. Then provide Officite with the registration information so that we can complete the process of pointing the domain name to your Officite website.

  • you are a sole trader
  • have a state registered business name
  • or are an Australian registered company

IMPORTANT: For search engine optimization purposes, Officite recommends that you purchase a domain name that ends with “.com.au.” Google.com.au gives precedence to domain names ending with “.com.au.”

To read the complete guidelines on auDA’s policy on domain name eligibility and allocation please visit the following link: http://www.auda.org.au/ea-policy.

Registration Companies Officite Recommends:

Officite recommends two domain name registrars: NetRegistry.com.au and MelbourneIT.com.au. Both registration companies provide registration capabilities for “.com.au” domain names and both are AUDA accredited registrars.

NetRegistry.com.au provides 2-year “.com.au” domain name registrations for a price of $34.95 (AUD).

MelbourneIT.com.au provides 2-year “.com.au” domain name registrations for a price of $56.00 (AUD).

*Please note that both companies can provide the basic level of services that is required, however, may provide more or less services included with the registration, which may account for the price difference.

Steps Involved With Registration

  1. If you already own a “.com.au” domain name that you wish to use with your Officite website, please skip to step #4, below. Otherwise, please determine if your preferred domain name is available by going to either of the domain name registrars’ websites previously provided. Near the top of the Web page for both registration companies, you can enter your preferred “.com.au” domain name into the search bar to determine if that domain is available.*Please note that each registration company may also have the option of adding other domain name extensions (such as .com, .net, .net.au, .id.au, etc.) to the search. As indicated previously, we suggest, for search engine optimization purposes, to register and utilize a domain name ending with “.com.au”
  2. Once you have selected your preferred, available domain name, proceed to register the domain name with your chosen registrar. This process will require you to register as a new user with the registrar and provide contact and payment information to them.
  3. Complete the transaction and be sure to write down the username and password used to register the domain name.
  4. Provide your domain name information to Officite. You can email us at production@officite.com with the registrar that you used and your username and password. Officite will only use this information to modify the settings of your domain name to point to Officite’s servers.*If you do not wish to provide the username and password information to Officite, you will need to modify the settings within the account. Before doing so, if this is an existing domain name (one you did not recently purchase) you should contact us to provide us with any email addresses that you currently use. This is so that we can assist you with the transition of email from your current servers over to ours. If you wish to keep your email addresses set up with the same company you are using now, and only point the website settings to us, we can assist you further with that as well.If this is a new domain name, the setting for “name servers” must be changed to point to the following name servers: ns4.officite.com and ns5.officite.com

IMPORTANT: If you choose to point the domain name to our name servers on your own, Officite must still be notified in order to update the settings in our system.
